A shift has begun in the gaming monitor market, where higher refresh rates required lowering resolution. LG Electronics is launching in South Korea a gaming monitor that keeps FHD resolution and supports a super-high 1,000Hz refresh rate.

On the 26th, LG Electronics (CEO Ryu Jae-cheol) launched the “LG UltraGear 25G590B” in South Korea. The company said the product is the world’s first to realize “Native 1000Hz,” which provides native support for an ultra-high 1,000Hz refresh rate at FHD resolution.

At 1,000Hz, the screen can be refreshed up to 1,000 times per second. The higher the refresh rate, the more smoothly you can express screens with fast-moving content.

The key to this product is that it secures a high refresh rate and FHD resolution at the same time. With existing ultra-high-refresh-rate gaming monitors, a dual-mode approach has sometimes been applied that lowers resolution or screen size when you choose the higher refresh rate. It is a method that gives up some image quality for faster screen switching.

The 25G590B supports 1,000Hz at FHD resolution, easing these constraints. In particular, it is designed so you can more clearly see characters, backgrounds, and objects that move quickly in first-person shooter (FPS) games with fast scene changes.

It uses an IPS panel to support a wide viewing angle and color expression, and it also includes “Motion Blur Reduction Pro (MBR),” a technology that reduces motion blur trails of fast-moving objects. It is a feature used to track movement in games where quick aiming and target recognition are important.

It also applies AI features. “AI Customized Picture Quality” recognizes what is on the screen and adjusts picture quality, while “AI Sound” delivers the directional sense of game sounds in a three-dimensional way when using headphones or similar devices.

It also includes design elements to reduce desk space. It cuts the size of the stand base by up to 49% compared with the company’s existing model, the 25G550B, widening the area where you can use a keyboard and mouse.

The new product’s price is 1.49 million won based on the selling price at LG Electronics’ online brand shop.

Demand for high-performance products in the gaming monitor market is also growing. Market research firm IDC projected that the global gaming monitor market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.4% through 2030, and that South Korea’s market will grow by about 15% over the same period. According to LG Electronics, the LG UltraGear ranked No. 1 in market share in the domestic gaming monitor market in the first quarter of this year.

Lee Chung-hwan, executive vice president and head of the Display Business Division at LG Electronics’ Mobile Solution (MS) Business, said, “It’s a product that captures all the key elements gamers want: refresh rate and image quality.”
